This is a fine Italian seal that features a waxed turned wooden handle and a bronze disc engraved with a scarab.

The scarab is the cyclical symbol of the sun, a symbol of resurrection. It is the image of the sun reborn from itself, a returning God. In Egyptian painting, the scarab carries the enormous ball of the sun between its legs, like the sun god returning from the shadows of the night.
