This is a fine Italian seal that features a waxed turned wooden handle and a bronze disc engraved with a goat.
Generally, the goat is associated with symbolism related to the desire for freedom and emancipation. This is why its symbolic meaning has inspired writers and artists of various eras. Thus, the great fabulist Jean de la Fontaine said that the very name goat symbolized everything related to whims and desires.
In classical societies, the goat was also considered the wet nurse of Zeus; this is why the figure of the goat Amalthea was famous, as it was she who fed him with her milk.
In addition, she participated in the rites and cults that were celebrated to provoke answers to the questions posed to the oracle of Delphi.
