Ref: 0009930-16: Seal "Knights Templar"

This is a refined Italian seal that consists of a waxed turned wooden handle and a bronze disc engraved with the "Knights Templar" symbol.

The seal of the order depicts a horse ridden by two riders with the inscription: " Sigillum militum Christi ." This image is intended to perpetuate the memory of the primitive poverty of the knights, for, in the beginning, they were so poor that a single horse served two.
The Great Seal of the Master of the Templars was double-sided. One side showed the image of the Dome of the Rock (some scholars believe the image represents the circular dome of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre), and on the other, the symbol of the Order, with two knights on a horse (perhaps Hugh of Payens and Godfrey of Saint-Omer).

Total length of the sealing stamp: 9.5 cm.
Length of the bronze piece screwed to the end of the handle, on which the pellet fits: 1.7 cm.
Diameter of the bronze pellet: 22.5 mm.
Diameter of the screw thread of the pellet: 4 mm.

Made in Italy.
