Ref: 0009930-9: "Alpha and Omega" Seal
This is a fine Italian seal that features a waxed turned wooden handle and a bronze disc engraved with an Alpha and an Omega.
These are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. Applied to God or Christ, they signify that they are the beginning and end of all things.
Alpha and omega, the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, came to represent God in the Christian tradition through the writings of Revelation. However, their meaning is much deeper. Although God is the beginning and end of all things, alpha and omega represent the path of all things, the splendor and decay of all objects and life forms; everything is born and everything dies, beyond divine design. They represent a universal time frame. Alpha and omega also represent the typical Greek concept of inevitability, the sense that nothing is infinite and nothing is immortal.
These two letters “A.Ω.” are written on the Paschal candle.
Total length of the sealing stamp: 9.5 cm.
Length of the bronze piece screwed to the end of the handle, on which the pellet fits: 1.7 cm.
Diameter of the bronze pellet: 22.5 mm.
Diameter of the screw thread of the pellet: 4 mm.
Made in Italy.
